The project aims to produce a webseries to reach and sensitize young people to some of today most pressing public health concerns including nutrition, alcohol and drug abuse, and sexual health.

Unhealthy lifestyles are widespread among teenagers. Teens are notoriously difficult to reach through traditional communications means. They can be rebellious and respond negatively or be indifferent to well intentioned advice by teachers, parents, medical professionals, social workers or from government campaigns.

Communication must be on their terms and in a language they understand and relate to. Communication through the internet is perhaps the most effective way to reach teenagers today and more and more teenagers are now watching series on the web in lieu of primetime TV programming.

This is why we decided to co-produce an enjoyable webseries to reach and sensitize young people to some of today most pressing public health concerns including nutrition, alcohol and drug abuse, and sexual health.

The webseries is produced for teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 years old and would like to reach in particular those teens that are neither in work nor in education.

The webseries is co-produced through an innovative methodology which involves issue experts, production team and teens themselves. As a result format, messages and storylines will be reviewed and validated at each key phase of development.

Episodes will be ready in April 2012 and launched on the most popular web video sharing platforms such as YouTube, DailyMotion and Vimeo. Ahead of the launch the webseries will be promoted on social networking sites like Facebook, Hyves, Netlog, Tuenti and Nasza-Klasa.

We hope Boys and Girls will contribute to redesign the way that public health policies and priorities are communicated to teenagers.
